Ursprungligen boxare av danskt ursprung, född Pedersen i Köpenhamn. Redan som barn uppträdde han som gårdarna tillsammans med sin bror. Började gå in för boxning när han var 16 år och blev en av Nordens första proffsboxare (welter-vikt). Övergick omkring 1915 till underhållningsbranchen och debuterade på scen som dansör 1916. Han övergav dock kabarén 1926 och övergick till att bli operettsångare. Han medverkade i sin första engelska film 1925. Han blev mycket populär under 1920 - 1930-talet och hörde till de högst betalda stjärnorna i Europa. Medverkade i 
även operett i Stockholm och spelade in några skivor i Sverige 1918 - 22 men var annars främst verksam i England och
USA. Bl.a. Startade en egen teater i London 1926 som han drev till 1933 och grundade också filmbolaget Carl Brisson Production i London 1940. Han medverkade i 12
