Orkesterledare, musiker (trummor). Musikalisk galenpanna och schlagermördare av guds nåde med sin orkster Spike Jones and his City Slickers. Född i Long Beach, Californinen. Smeknamnet "Spike" lär han ha fått av att han som ung var smal som en "räls-spik" (railroad spike. F.ö. arbetade hans far vid järnvägen). Han började spela trummor som 11-åring och bildade sin första egna orkester i tonåren. Det var också vid denna tiden som en kock lärde honom att använda grytor, kastruller och annan köksutrustning som musik-instrument! Åren 1937 - 42 var han slagverkare i John Scott Trotter's orkester som bl.a. spelade då Bing Crosby gjorde sin första inspelning av "White Christmas".
