Bill Haley and his Comets

Bill Haley (06.07.1925 - 10.02.1981)

Amerikansk country och rock n' roll sångare. Född i Highland park, Michigan som William John Cliftop Haley Jr. Började tidigt spela gitarr och vid 15 års ålder lämnade han hemmet för att turnera med ett country and western band. Debuterade på skiva 1943 med "Candy kisses". Bildade sitt första countryband 1948 men 1952 övergav han countryn och gick helt in för rock 'n roll med sitt nya band The Comets. Hans största hit "Rock around the clock" som spelades in 1954 fick till en början ingen större uppmärksamhet men när den var med i filmen "Vänd dom inte ryggen" (Blackboard jungle, 1955) blev det starten på en helt ny musikforn, rock 'n roll och låten toppade skivlistan åtta veckor i sträck och blev en av världens mest sålda skivor. I slutet av 1960-talet gjorde gruppen en turné i sverige och mellan 1968 och 1979 spelade man in sex LP-skivor för svenska skivbolaget Sonet.
